Akhir September lalu, Youtube melalui blog resminya mengumumkan akan menggelar ajang penghargaan musik untuk pertama kalinya. Acara bertajuk Youtube Music Award ini akan digelar pada 3 November 2013 mendatang.
Sebagaimana dirilis dalam situs beralamat youtube-global.blogspot.com pada hari Senin (30/9/2013), acara ini akan disiarkan melalui live streaming di situs berbagi video itu.
Beberapa artis berhasil mengukuhkan keberadaan mereka di panggung musik dunia berkat YouTube. Di antaranya adalah penyanyi rap asal Korea Selatan, PSY.
Video ‘Gangnam Style’ telah ditonton 1,7 miliar kali di YouTube dan gayanya banyak ditiru, tidak hanya oleh warga biasa, tapi juga oleh para selebriti. Kontribusi PSY dan berbagai penampil lain inilah yang tidak dipungkiri mendongkrak popularitas Youtube.
